Managers report...

Callowbrook Swifts who won the under eights league title last year in the South Birmingham league, joining the mercian league this year, we knew we had a tough game ahead especially coming off a 3 - 0 defeat to Welland last week.
The boys were up for it!

' Kick Off '
The boys were straight into the game, defending then attacking, it was great stuff.

Our first goal came from a quick goal kick from Joe Cross, who passed the ball to Archie, who then passed it to Harry he knocked the ball down the line for Kier, who slotted it passed the keeper.
1 - 0 ' Great stuff '

Callowbrook soon equalised with a thumping shot from the forward, we came back at them again down the right Tom and Kane won us a corner with an excellant one-two.
Fergus who was having a great game drilled the ball into the box, making space for himself Archie smashed the ball passed the Callowbrook keeper.
'GET IN THERE' 2 - 1 at half time.

Making a change at half time because of injury Oscar came on to replace Keir as a defender to try and hold on to the 2 - 1 lead. Second half football was as good as the first half, end to end stuff both teams going close. The Callowbrook forward crossed the ball into the box which was deflected past Joe into the net to make it 2 - 2 both teams played well (fair result)
Superb football by the boys.

A supporters report...

On 15 September a convoy of cars left Cradley in blazing sunshine for a match against Callowbrook Swifts, all the way over in Rubery. Not so good for the planet, but an excellent turn-out in parental support.

Where the first match against Welland had been a nervous affair for our boys, they started the game confidently.

Many of the first half chances were ours, and the team was rewarded for their efforts when a ball into the penalty area rolled over the Callowbrook line in general defense confusion.

Luckliy the referee was not confused and awarded the U9s their first goal of the season. I think the goal was claimed by Kane or Kier. Callowbrook kept fighting back and scored a fantastic goal a few minutes later - Joe Cross in goal did not stand a chance.

But Cradley kept their heads high and before half time Archie scored a great goal for us, volleying like a professional.

The lead gave the boys more confidence than their parents, but to give them credit, they held on to their lead for a long time, till a shot into goal deflected off our defender and gave Callowbrook their equaliser.

A few scary last minutes saw Callowbrook pressuring our defence but the boys held them off for a well-deserved 2-2 draw that probably reflected the 2 teams well.

All players shook hands and were in fact rather blase about what we as parents thought was a fantastic performance - Kevin was proud! Players this week were Joe Cross, Tom Davies, Oscar van Vuren, Kier Liptrot, Kane Bruton, Archie Connor, Fergus Cameron, Harry Dunnett.
