CUP FINAL

Cradley Sports Club recorded their first major trophy win with a well earned victory in the Talbot-Page shield final at Malvern Towns Langland stadium.

Pre-match talk around the ground suggested that Cradley were to get beaten by a strong Welland side featuring some of the best players in the league, but straight from the first whistle Cradley never looked liked being beaten, the occasion certainly never got to them and they played some superb flowing football that we had seen glimpses of in the last few games building up to the final.

Cradleys dominance paid off towards the end of the first half after another good passage of play earned a corner which Ben Finch whipped in for Charlie Jones to power a header into the corner, 1-0!

Unfortunately the goal seemed to drop Cradleys focus and almost strightaway Welland equalised with a scrappy goal following a corner of their own, this being the only time in the first half anyone can recall Kurt Poppleton having to touch the ball.

This was a good time for the whistle to blow, and Wayne and Deans half time talk must have been inspiring stuff as Cradley returned for the second half, stepping up a gear and totally dominated the second half getting the winning goal with 10 minutes to go.

It was the semi-final hero Josh Davies - who scored the winner in that game - in the right place at the right time to stab home the winner from 6 yards, and then the celebrations began!

The entire team played well, there was no weak link throughout the team, but a quick mention for Isaac George for playing on after getting a big smack in the face and having to leave the pitch twice with a bleeding nose, well done Isaac, especially for THAT tackle towards the end!
