Welland Girls

Cradley girls played three matches against Welland on Sunday, starting with the older girls, then the younger girls and then a mixture of the two!! With one win, one draw and one loss the morning was well enjoyed by the many spectators supporting Cradley for their away game.

The senior Cradley Girls played their best performance in this match away to Welland. Cradley started very lively with “girl of the match” Jade Allards pace causing problems for the Welland defence, linking up well with Louise Morgan, their excellent play was rewarded with a goal for each of them within the first five minutes. Cradley dominated the majority of play with Bunny Bruton working very hard in midfield to counteract any chances Welland had. Cradley could have increased the lead further before half time, with some well took corners and some further efforts from Jade and Louise just going wide. The second half continued in the same manner with Cradleys pace looking threatening continuously, following a good ball put through from Beth Finch, Louise Morgan smashed in number two and then completed her hat-trick a few minutes later. Cradleys defence dealt with any Welland attacks very solidly, with Charlotte Thomson looking very strong alongside Beth Finch playing an unfamiliar role to her in defence. The girls played excellent and came away with a fantastic win.

The younger girls of both teams then played one another which was a well matched game, Welland started the livelier with some good attacks dealt with well by Charlotte Thomson again in defence, alongside Atlanta Finch. Cradley then upped their game with some attacking play from Kaitlin Adair who put through Georgia Allard who just put past the post. Welland attacked back and following a defensive error allowed them to shoot making it one nil. Half time saw a change and with Jade Allards pace down the wing this opened up Cradleys play and they had some great chances just hit wide or well saved. Cradley dominated the second half and could have two or three but the ball seemed destined not to go in! The match finished one nil but Cradley can hold their heads up high as they were unlucky not to come away with at least a draw.

The last match saw a mixture of the two sides and a 9 a side match was player which again was well matched from both sides, Cradley started lively and came near in the opening few minutes from a good shot from Jade Allard. Welland themselves then had a good chance denied from the solid defence of Charlotte Thomson. Cradley were unlucky with some good efforts on goal but then Welland broke and following a deflection from a clearance, Welland managed to strike which put them one nil up.

Cradley made a change and with Alexi Gregory out of goal, she worked very hard to push forward the attack with paid off when she set up Jade Allard to fire home an equaliser, she could have scored herself a few minutes later but just shot wide. Cradley dominated for the final few minutes and should have taken the win from a good corner swung in from Jade and another good effort from a Charlotte Thomson free kick and a powerful shot from Alexi Gregory. Nevertheless the game finished as one all.

Well done girls, a great performance by you all.
